Some situations should not wait until morning. Call right away if a tree or large limb is resting on your house, garage or vehicle; if a tree is blocking your driveway, the street or your only safe way out; if a trunk has split or cracked; or if a tree is leaning with the root plate heaving out of the ground. Hanging, broken limbs caught in the canopy — “widow-makers” — are also urgent, because they can drop without warning onto whatever is below. The longer a hung limb sits, the more wind and gravity work it loose, so these are not problems to leave until the weekend.
Anything involving a power line is an emergency for the utility, not for you to touch: treat every downed line as energized, keep people and pets back, and call 911 and your electric provider to de-energize it. If you are unsure how serious a situation is, call and describe it — we can usually tell you over the phone whether it needs an immediate crew or can safely wait until morning, which saves you the cost of an unnecessary after-hours call.
