Tree Trimming & Pruning

Good pruning keeps your trees healthy, safe, and looking the way they should. Done right, it lowers storm risk, clears structures, and extends a tree’s life. Done wrong — especially topping — it invites decay and weak regrowth. I prune the right way, and I never top trees.

Pruning Services

  • Crown thinning — selective branch removal for more light, airflow, and reduced wind load.
  • Crown raising — clearance for walkways, driveways, roofs, and sightlines.
  • Crown reduction — lowering height and weight with proper cuts, never topping.
  • Deadwood removal — taking out dead, dying, and broken limbs before they fall.
  • Structural pruning — shaping young trees so they grow strong and don’t fail decades later.
  • Clearance pruning — keeping limbs off roofs, siding, and service lines.

When to Prune in Colorado

Timing matters on the Front Range. Late winter is the best window for structural pruning — the tree is dormant and cuts heal cleanly come spring. Summer is a good time for deadwood removal, since dead limbs are easiest to spot when the tree is leafed out. Every cut is a wound the tree has to seal, so where and how I cut matters as much as what I take off.

Front Range Species

Cottonwood, elm, ash, pine, and spruce each have their own habits and weak points. Thirty-plus years on this side of the Rockies means I know how local trees grow, how they fail, and what they need to stay standing through our wind and heavy spring snow.
